Rows of death's heads in rounded cartouches, joined side to side by short chain links. The best-documented Roman skull image we know of is a mosaic from house I.5.2 in Pompeii — the officina coriariorum, the tannery of Marcus Vesonius Primus. A mason's level hangs with a skull as its plumb-bob, sceptre and purple cloth balanced against a beggar's staff and scrip. Someone in the leather trade commissioned it, which we like.

CNC-milled solid brass head on a stainless steel handle — one piece, 110 mm (4 5/16") overall. Size: 17x12mm (21/32" x 15/32"). Cut depth: 1.3 mm — best on 3 mm leather or thicker.

What it's for

A band stamp: repeat it end to end and you get a continuous chain of skulls. Good along a belt, a guitar strap, a cuff, a dog collar or the welt line of a sheath. On smaller items a single strike works alone — a keyring fob, a patch, the corner of a card wallet.

Want your own skull — different jaw, different links, a name in place of one head? We take commissions, and we would enjoy that one.

How to use it well

Line up the chain links, not the skulls — the links are what make the repeat look continuous, and the eye forgives an uneven skull long before it forgives a broken chain. Strike once, square, with the leather well cased; the eye sockets and teeth are the deepest cuts and they need the full blow. On a strap, mark your centre first and work outwards in both directions.

Workshop Tips

Veg-tan leather, lightly cased — damp to the touch, not wet.

  • Use 3 mm leather or thicker. Some of our patterns cut up to 1.8 mm deep. On thinner leather a backing scrap underneath is mandatory, or the pattern will distort the back.
  • One clean strike, square to the surface. Don't tilt the tool.
  • For deeper relief: lift the stamp fully, re-seat it in the same impression, and strike again. Never rock the tool — rocking gives you ghosted double edges.
  • Hot stamping: wear gloves. Metal carries heat faster than you expect.

Care

Proper care and maintenance will help extend the lifespan of your stamped leather items and keep them looking their best.

  1. Clean with a soft cloth: After each use, gently wipe the brass head and stainless steel parts of the stamp with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dust or debris. This helps to maintain its appearance and prevent buildup.
  2. Store in a dry place: When not in use, store the stamp in a cool, dry place to prevent any potential corrosion or tarnishing of the brass head and stainless steel parts. This helps to maintain their integrity and prolong their lifespan.
  3. Handle with care: When using the stamp, handle it with care to avoid any unnecessary impact or force. This will prevent damage to the brass head and stainless steel parts, ensuring their longevity.
  4. Avoid abrasive materials: Refrain from using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals when cleaning the stamp, as they can potentially damage the brass head or stainless steel parts. Stick to gentle cleaning methods using soft cloths or brushes.

Made by us

We're a family workshop in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Every design is drawn in-house, then CNC-milled from solid brass and hand-finished before it ships. Stamps are made to order, which is why production takes a few days — nothing sits on a shelf waiting.

If you need a size, a variation, or a design we don't stock, write to us. Custom work is most of what we enjoy doing.

Shipping

Every stamp is made to order in our workshop in Novi Sad — nothing sits on a shelf waiting. Cutting and finishing normally takes 2 to 5 working days, and you'll get an email the moment your stamp goes on the machine.

United States
Standard (USPS) — free once your order passes $50, which is about two stamps. Tracked door to door. This is the one we recommend for most orders.
Express (FedEx) is available too — but please read the note below first.

Europe — tracked Economy Post, free over $75.
Everywhere else — tracked Standard Post, free over $95.

Express is offered on every route. Checkout shows you every option and its exact cost for your address before you pay anything.

One honest note about Express: it speeds up the journey, not the making. Your stamp still needs its days in the workshop first. So if you're working to a deadline, write to us before you order — we'll tell you straight whether we can make it.

Everything is tracked. Every order, every country, no exceptions. You can follow your parcel on our own tracking page, and we'll email you at each step so you're never left wondering where your stamp is.
